a very late post.sorry..but better late than never. I was at the reserve last Tuesday with one of our voluntary wardens. It was still pretty awful weather, but we had things to do. The steps at the entrance to the reserve had suffered a bit with the heavy rain at some point. A lot of the gravel had washed to the bottom, leaving big holes in the steps. So, we did a bit of ferrying and filling. There is still a bit of a channel at the foot of the steps, but I will have to bring some gravel to sort that out, so please take care on that bit of the path. We also put up the interpretation boards up ready for the summer season. A seabird update...many pairs of kittiwakes were back on the cliffs, it was fantastic to see and hear them. There were also one or two fulmars. All the guillemots and razorbills that have been seen in previous visits had cleared off again. This is not unusual. Each species seems to build themselves up for the breeding season, making short visits to the cliffs and then disappearing again before they return for good nearer egg laying time. Our voluntary warden, Naomi was very impressed with the reserve...she had never seen fulmars or eiders before.
