Hi...myself and one of our vountary wardens have been at Fowlsheugh for the last two days undertaking some annual seabird monitoring work.   We've had a great couple of days. The weather was kind to us.  Tuesday started off a little damp and chilly but by the end of the day, the sun was shining and today was glorious.   At long last, it seems summer has arrived and the cliff top flowers that have struggled to flower this year are beginning to look spectacular.   The thift and red campion are really beginning to brighten the cliffs up.   Most of the kittiwakes are well into their incubation period, while the guillemot chicks are begining to hatch.   Food supplies for the birds look promising.  We saw some huge shoals of fish, presumambly sandeels just under the surface and the birds feeding in a frenzied way...amazing.   Other wildlife highlights included a total of six bottle-nosed dolphins, rock pipits with fledged young, a stoat,a grey seal, roe deer and singing whitethroats.   (Plus herring gull chicks, not many peoples idea of a wildlife highlight, but I like them!)  All in all, a very pleasant two days.   Don't forget our guided walks are continuing throughout June..see the website for available dates.
