Just a brief update to warn our visitors that a group of scouts will be working in the reed bed on Saturday 28th February. We have to get the work done before the lapwings and water rails get down to nesting in the second half of March.
The bittern is hopefully still with us, having been seen last weekend.
There are at least 20 common snipe, although they can be hard to see among the reeds and rushes. Hopefully tomorrow's work will make them more visible from Reedbed Hide.
A flock of about a hundred golden plovers flew over a few days ago. This species has been scarce locally this winter, probably because they have not been forced this far south and west by cold weather.
Barn owls can be seen in their nest box. Best views early on a sunny morning, when they like to sit at the entrance in the sun (and who doesn't...?).
