The water levels are very low at the moment, and I wondered if it was due to some water management (someone told me this happens) or if it's just down to lack of rain? It does seems to have happened quickly in the past couple of weeks.
Thanks
Jeremy
Hi Jeremy,
We do manage the water levels here at the reserve so what you've been told is correct, we generally drop them at this time of year to create nice muddy exposed edges for feeding waders that are likely to have chicks. At the moment most of what you are seeing is due to the lack rain and evaporation so the levels wouldn't normally be as low as they are if we'd have had a bit more rain. So in answer to your question it's a bit of both really,
Hope this helps!
Laura
Gosh, that was a quick reply, thanks very much! It's a nice place to spend time, but I was surprised how low it was at pickup when I was there on Tuesday. I only had a couple of hours so next time I'll try the new path.
