Injured baby bird dunnock/sparrow

Hi i have a baby bird that was at the side of the road unable to move i took it home as a cat was watching n it looks like it has already been got. Ive put it on a hot water bottle n it has eaten a small amount with a syringe, its really perked up and is chirping but too young to fly yet. Im not sure wot to do with it as i cart drive and the local vets doesnt open till 8:30 in the morning. I have no rescue centres near me only fairburn but apparantly they dont take sick birds in.

Please help if u know of anywhere im in kippax, leeds

Thx Steph

  • Hi Steph, sorry we haven't been able to get in touch sooner, hope you had a happy outcome with your baby bird. Unfortunately you're quite right, Fairburn Ings, like any other RSPB reserve doesn't have the facilities to look after injured or abandoned birds.

For the future this is a website that lists some local rescue centres - www.helpwildlife.co.uk/northeast.php

And for advice you can always try our Wildlife Enquiries team on 01767 693690, Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm.
