St Aidens

Had another good morning at St Aidens today As well as the ubiquitous Grey lags, Canada geese, Black headed gulls, tufted duck, cormorants, coots etc. I was also rewarded with lovely hovering and hunting from the pair of resident kestrels. Amongst the many herons was a Little egret. Down in the dyke a young dabchick seems to have no fear and let me watch it diving and feeding at close quarters. I also got my best views ever of several beautiful stonechats right next to the main pathways both male and female birds. Reed buntings, Lapwings and a whole flock of about 100 curlew rose and circled uttering their marvellous burbling calls, to be honest i knew they were there long before I was able to spot them. Added to this the morning was enhanced by seven lovely Park white cattle grazing the marsh-but then i have a soft spot for cows. I did notice that the water levels are very low exposing many mud banks that would normally be submerged.
