What's on in the Aire Valley

This week is all about Visitor Experience! Behind the scenes in the Aire Valley, the visitor experience team are working hard to ensure that both RSPB Fairburn Ings and RSPB St Aidan’s look as beautiful as possible and that visitors all have the best experience when they visit. We organise loads of exciting events across both reserves, which some of you might have been to before.  The team has been super busy over the last few months so we thought we’d give you a behind-the-scenes look into what we do and how you can influence what goes on across both reserves!

Now that spring is in full swing the team have been busy setting up some exciting new and recurring events over the upcoming months. Like Hapa Zome on the 9 June, nocturnal wildlife walks in June and August, a farmland walk on the 11 June and wildflower walks on the 2 June. Keep tuned as we’ll be releasing some exciting new events for summer over on the Aire Valley socials. The picture attached to the bottom of this post might be an indicator of what one of the upcoming events will be about... but none of this would be possible without the help of all the staff and volunteers across the Aire Valley.

Speaking of volunteers there’s been a lot going on with the bees in the RSPB Fairburn Ings visitor centre! One of the fantastic rangers has been putting his beekeeping skills to good use by helping us manage the active beehive that currently calls the visitor centre home. They’ve been very active recently, and if you’ve been lucky enough to have visited at the right time, they’ve been swarming around the trees and centre. What a sight to see!

This week we’ve been getting some content from the fantastic wildflower walks at RSPB Fairburn Ings. Jane, who’s a wildflower expert took us along the trails of RSPB Fairburn Ings and explained loads of species of wildflowers around the reserve. There’s so much to learn about wildflowers and a whole world of information to discover. We know we’ll be taking some of what we learned and using it in our own gardens. It’s surprisingly easy to have the best of both worlds- a beautiful garden and a wildlife friendly one. Oh, and it’s super easy to maintain too! 100% a bonus.

At RSPB St Aidan’s the teams have been busy developing some groovy challenges for the summer which we’re super hyped about sharing with you all soon. There’s a new trail out at RSPB St Aidan's that’s a guaranteed blast for the whole family. So if you’re stuck for things to do this half term why not pop along and see what all the hype is about?

We’ve got another busy few months up ahead and some big events are in the works. So make sure to keep an eye out and be the first to know what’s on across the Aire Valley. Hopefully we’ll see you this summer!

We'd love to know what you think of our reserves so why not pop into the visitor centre or Little Owl Cafe or hop onto social media and let us know you're feedback?
