What a week it has been for seeing the familiar and not so familiar around Fairburn Ings. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there were sightings of a Spotted Flycatcher camped out along Lin Dike path near the hide, although it's probably been blown away now after the day we're having today.

There have been lots of reports of Blackwits, Ruff, Dunlin and Greenshank throughout the week which is great to hear. Lin Dike and Pickup are the best places on the reserve for observing these waders.

Thursday there was a Wheatear seen in the field next to Spoonbill Flash and a Little Owl near the visitor centre in the back field as you walk to Pickup hide. A few Pink-Footed Geese are starting to appear now as they make there way south from places such as Greenland, Svalbard and Iceland.

Around the visitor centre this week people have had the joy of seeing Buzzards, Kingfishers, Willow Tits and a Sparrowhawk.

Take a trip to Cut hide today and you will find a Goosander roosting on the spit along with one or two Lapwings, as well as Shovelers, Teal, Gadwall and Tufted ducks out on the surrounding water.
