As autumn starts to set in the weeks just keep getting better and better for viewing waders and other waterfowl around the reserve. The beginning of this week saw reports of a Golden Plover seen down on the Flashes, and the same day 4 Ruff and a Greenshank were spotted from Pickup hide as well as a Water Rail.

A Water Rail was again seen from Pickup hide on Wednesday and sightings of a Common Sandpiper from Cut hide, Goldeneye from Village Bay hide and a Goosander flying West over the reserve all added to the mid-week richness.

Thursday and Friday were the best days this week for watching waders and other exciting birds. More Greenshank have been observed feeding at Pickup and at Lin Dike. On Friday 3 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin and a Snipe were all seen down on Spoonbill Flash. A Black-tailed Godwit was at Pickup on Friday and a group of Buzzards were reported soaring over the visitor centre.
