Introducing Keith and Val, who describe themselves as ‘the Sunday morning novices’, having joined 6 months ago.
Val says “Keith is a Ranger and is trying hard to sound like a walking encyclopaedia on all things bird-like. He is getting there with the help of our other wonderful and knowledgeable experienced Rangers. I am an assistant in the visitor centre and now, at last, becoming familiar with the intricacies of our 'Arkwright' till - it still makes me jump when I press the wrong key! My main problem is trying to avoid the delicious ice-creams and flapjacks, 'a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips' springs to mind!
We could not be described as avid 'twitchers' but have always been interested in nature and wildlife. In our younger days we were enthusiastic scuba-divers but donning heavy equipment these days is no fun. We joined the RSPB team as our way of paying a little back in retirement and giving nature a helping hand. The staff at St Aidan's are very patient and welcoming, the visitors varied and interesting and we can thoroughly recommend volunteering of any kind.”
