Yesterday there was a report of an Osprey hunting over Spoonbill Flash. One lucky regular to the reserve actually witnessed an Osprey catch a fish from the flashes, which is something you don't see here every day! This is not the first report of Osprey around the reserve recently, with people catching sight of this truly awesome bird of prey last week, and over the weekend. All these sightings have happened down near the flashes and the Lin Dike part of the reserve. Ospreys will be making their way to their wintering grounds in Sub Saharan Africa and will make regular fuel stops along the way so watch out because they could end up in the unlikeliest of places.
The beginning of this week has seen a variety of different visitors to the reserve including a male Stonechat along the riverside trail, two Wheatear's up on Main tips, a Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper, Greenshank and a Marsh Harrier all seen from Pickup hide.
Two Spotted Flycatchers were glimpsed down Cut lane on Wednesday, and an adult and juvenile Hobby were seen down Lin Dike hawking for dragonflies.
It has also been a great week for spotting Snipe and Dunlin around the reserve, as well as Ringed Plover, Water Rail and the infamous Kingfisher.
