Yesterday over the visitor centre there was a spectacular sight of 5 buzzards soaring overhead, a real treat for us on a cold rainy day. A Hobby from Pickup hide yesterday and a male Hobby on Sunday also from Pickup hide. A Red Kite was seen on both days over the weekend, one flying over Cut Lane on Sunday and one over the flashes on Saturday.
A Little-ringed Plover from Pickup hide yesterday and a Little Grebe with it’s chicks seen to the right of Redshale road on “Big Hole” will really bring out the “aww” in anyone.
At Lin Dike over the weekend sightings of Avocet and 4 Cuckoo, and lots of warblers including Whitethroat and Blackcap.
Daily sightings of Kingfisher which is a great sign that the harsh winter hasn’t had a detrimental impact on them at the reserve.
In terms of ducks we’ve had a Garganey and Pintail seen today.
Around the visitor centre we’ve had all the usual garden birds but also some lovely baby Willow Tit’s have been seen on the feeders. Lots of duckings pottering around the reserve which is lovely to watch their antics!
