Our Kingfisher's delight us on a daily basis letting us get close up views of them flying, fishing and carrying nesting material but over the past couple of days visitors have been experiencing once in a lifetime encounters with these amazing birds!
On Friday afternoon, a pair of kingfishers were sat side by side on a branch (seen from the kingfisher screen), the male hopped along to the female and they began mating- right there in full view for these lucky visitors to see, then the male flew away and arrived back seconds later with a fish in it's beak for the female- who said romance was dead?
Then this morning on the dawn chorus walk, father and son were out on a fishing trip- visitors on the walk were able to watch this fascinating process for at least 10 minutes whilst the parent was teaching the young kingfisher how to catch fish- what an amazing way to start a Sunday morning!
Kingfishers can been seen on the reserve daily and from a number of different places such as Cut Lane, Pickup Hide, Bob Dickens Hide and Village Bay Hide but the most popular and closest encounters happen at the Kingfisher screen- pop into the visitor centre for more info when you visit!
