Hi there!
This week has been another very busy week here at Exe Estuary Reserves.
We have started the week carrying out a High Tide Bird Counts under a very weird weather conditions, alternating sun, rain and snow! Although it is still present a substantial number of species you may notice a decrease in their amount. This is a signal that spring is just around the corner and our birds are starting to leave the reserves for the breeding season.
Furthermore, on Monday we have cleaned up a hedge, laid a couple of years ago, from brambles and other scrub to give it more space to grow.
On Tuesday we have spent all day in Aylesbeare Reserve to carry on with the work of last week, cutting Willows and other scrubs and making a big bonfire to preserve a wet Heathland habitat.
Wednesday we started the day a bit earlier because we have spent a day in Chapel wood a small but quite nice woodland in North Devon. We have made a couple of barriers to discourage people to walk in a path that passes through the wood during the breeding season. We have also carried on cutting some of the dominating beech trees.
Thursday is our work party day and we have finished off the hedge laying at Powderham. It was a nice job and we made a very good hedge. Moreover, our Thursday volunteer, Dennis, came along on Friday morning taking some pictures of it.
Furthermore, we have carried on with the preparation of our new workshop. We can use light now and we’ve started to make a timber roof in the container.
That’s all for now!! See you soon!!
