Work on our use of the vegetative material produced from reserve management work is making good progress. We are currently planning our summer work as we will look to cut and remove the rush from the fields late summer. Last year we managed to turn this into briquettes for burning and this year our trials will look to progress the different harvesting and drying techniques needed to see if we can improve the process. The aim will be to explore further as to whether this is an effective and sustainable way of processing the material of our nature reserves and to see if it can be used elsewhere in the country.

So what this space, just maybe you could be burning rushes off the reserves in your log burners and open fires in a few years time.
