It might be freezing cold on Exminster Marshes in February and you'd be forgiven for thinking it is not cold enough to build an igloo but you'd be wrong. There may be no ice but there is an abundance of willow and last week Gemma, David, Steve, Roy and I built the foundations of a willow igloo which will be transformed into all its glory at the end of the summer by local children and adults.

We were very lucky that the trees had obliged by growing in a circle. There was still not enough trees to weave an igloo so we spent the day chopping branches from other willow trees and planting them to fill the gaps. We also planted along the sides of what will become a tunnel through which children and adults young at heart can enter the igloo. Our igloo's walls are still a bit sparce and there is no roof but the branches we planted will grow throughout the summer giving those of you who wish to take part plenty of material to weave a wonderful igloo to play in.

We don't have a definite date for this event yet but it's likely to be end of August. For details of this event and others please keep an eye on the RSPB website, Exminster Marshes events page.
