It’s been three weeks since I have moved from my previous job with the RSPB working as Community Engagement Officer in the Brecks, so I thought it was time to introduce myself to you all!

I’m from Devon originally, and grew up on Dartmoor, and now several years later I have managed to move back to my home county for a new role with the RSPB as Devon Visitor Experience Manager.

As part of this role I will be lucky enough to be working across some of our most stunning reserves in Devon including Labrador Bay, Chapel Wood, Exminster and Powderham Marshes and Bowling Green Marsh. I will be working to make sure that visitors to our reserves have the best possible experience and come away inspired by the work of the RSPB and the wildlife they have seen.

As part of this we will be putting in place an exciting events programme, connecting local people and visitors alike with the outstanding wildlife found here and inspiring them to get involved and make a difference in their landscape. There will be lots of different events for you to get involved in, so do keep an eye on our RSPB events page rspb.org.uk/discoverandenjoynature/seenature/events. The famous avocet cruises are already ready to go and will be kicking of next month- so make sure you don’t miss out on this spectacle by booking soon.

Over the next few months and into next year, those of you who regularly visit Bowling Green hide will notice some changes with plans for a wildlife garden, family and adult events and new interpretation- this work will make Bowling Green an even better experience and will help to inspire even more people about the fantastic wildlife spectacles the Exe has to offer. If you’d like to find out more about these plans get in touch with us on exe.estuary@rspb.org.uk or 01392 833311.

In the next few weeks I will be meeting the volunteer team who have been working hard to deliver brilliant visitor and conservation work across the Exe Estuary and Devon, and I am looking forward to working with them to continue to inspire others and to deliver great experiences for visitors. If you are interested in joining our team and taking part in the wide variety of work on offer- including both visitor and practical work you can check out rspb.org.uk/joinandhelp/volunteering or contact us directly on exe.estuary@rspb.org.uk or 01392 833311.

I’m looking forward to working with everyone in the reserves and regional team to showcase the inspiring wildlife spectacles on offer and the work of the RSPB across Devon.... and of course seeing my first cirl bunting!
