If you have been down to Bowling Green Marsh reserve Topsham over the last few months you may have noticed that the reserve facilities are looking a lot smarter. Thanks to money from Pennon Environmental Trust the RSPB has been able install new and upgrade existing facilities.

The installation of the new disabled parking space has been very well received and it is excellent to see that it is very well used. There is hardly a time I go down to the reserve and not see a Blue Badge holder using the space.

Now that the reserve has got better links to the national cycleway it was the prime time to install new bicycle racks and in the shape of lapwings they look rather splendid too.

Several new signs have been installed which guide people around and provide information on the estuary and its wildlife. The Trust also paid for the installation of the new path to the Clyst Platform which means visitors don’t get wet feet during the winter.

On the platform itself, the rough surfacing has been replaced with recycled plastic with presents a very durable, maintenance free and non slip surface.

With additional funds Pennon Environmental Trust are also providing funds to invest in Exminster Marshes, as there are plans to install a new viewing screen, bicycle racks and signage which like Bowling Green Marsh will greatly enhance the reserve and improve the visitor experience.

So if you haven’t had chance why not visit the reserves and enjoy the upgraded facilities.
