Phew, what a hot week it's been here. Thank goodness for the Dungeness breeze. The warm weather has been bringing out plenty of insects and basking lizards and grass snakes.

The flowers are in full glory too with the amazing vipers bugloss out and all over the reserve, covering the shingle landscape in beautiful purple-blue colour. Common centaury is also out in bloom too at the moment so look out for the pink star-shaped flowers around the trail.

If you want to know more about our amazing wildflowers and magnificent meadows then join us on our event on Saturday 1st July for a tour around our best wildflower areas with an expert, finished off with a few activities!
Bird highlights this week include a red kite and a honey buzzard over the reserve, black-tailed godwits and sandwich terns.
Last week we had a sqaucco heron stay with us for a few days. This beautiful bird is a rarity for the UK and only turns up once every few years. You mostly find them in Southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
