This week, we've been asking you what you can do to help stop climate change. The ideas written on our hearts have been lovely and people of all ages have been making suggestions. From washing clothes at lower temperatures and planting more wildlife friendly flowers to riding your bike to school instead of the car and picking up litter, I hope these sugestions will become a reality for those who have taken part in the #showthelove campaign this week.
On top of this, we have also been painting decoy terns to go out on our new islands on Burrowes Pit. Common and Little Terns as well as other small gull species like nesting in groups, or colonies. These model terns will be 'nesting' on the islands before the real birds arrive in hope that the seabirds will feel safer nesting near them.
We are still painting them tomorrow afternoon so come and join us!
Spring is still a little way off so it will be a while before see these decoys in action. It's something we can definitely look forward to though!
At the moment we still have our winter visitors here. We are seeing both male and female smew daily, plus our black-throated diver which is currently in view from the visitor centre. We have goldcrests a-plenty as well as golden plover, black tailed godwit, lapwing, curlew and snipe. We also had a red-crested pochard visit us briefly this week although it was only seen for one day. The glaucous gull still turns up occasionally on Burrowes Pit to roost.
