It's been an exciting morning with a whiskered tern appearing over New Diggings at about 9 am. This is only the fifth record of this species on the reserve. It is currently flying around over Burrowes pit and can be seen well from the Visitor Centre or Hide 1. A bittern was heard booming from Hooker's pits early on and a hobby was spotted over Burrowes pit. Loads of swifts and swallows have been passing through along with a few house and sand martins. The weather has been kinder than forecast - often the case here - with just a bit of drizzle and a gentle breeze.
