A quick update of what's around and about. Starting with Chew Brook and up to Chew Res we've recent sightings of Grey Wagtail and a juvenile Dipper. Lots of Meadow Pipits around as well as a few Wrens. Up on the moor tops we've had sightings of three Ravens and Red Grouse, including a group of eight. Also worth looking out for Kestrel and Peregrine which are about. Recent sightings too of Wheatear.
Around the smaller paths that run through the woods we've plenty of sightings of Jay, Coal Tit, Greenfinch, Long Tailed Tit, Treecreeper and Bullfinch. Over at Ashway Gap we've had good views of large flocks of Goldfinch on the thistles around this area.
Up to Binn Green and as well as the already mentioned Treecreeper, Coal Tit, Blue Tit and Great Tit we've also had good views of Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpeckers. Birds aside, also worth looking out for butterflies with Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper, Peacock, Large Skipper, Green Veined White, Small White and Small Tortoiseshell all on the wing.
Brief round-up over, time for a mention of something slightly different for us at Dove Stone and that's the Dove Stone Memory Bank. The Memory Bank is an oral history project. If you have a story to tell or a memory to share of having lived, worked or played at Dove Stone then why not get in touch ?
Our first Memory Bank Night drop-in is on Tuesday September 4th. Drop-in to the sailing club at Dove Stone anytime between 6pm and 8pm to find out more about the project and how you can get involved, either as a volunteer or how to take part if you do have stories and memories to contribute of Dove Stone. And if you can't make this Tuesday then we'll be at Greenfield Conservative Club on Friday 14th September between 6pm and 8pm and on Wednesday 19th September, also between 6pm and 8pm, we'll be at the Saddleworth Museum in Uppermill.
A quick plug too for our Fungi Foray this Saturday; details on the events pages.
