On Friday night we got the old moth trap again, this time at Ashway Gap.

The weather seemed fine during the day, but unfortunately took a turn for the worse with a heavy soaking drizzle which made things a bit trickier! Nevertheless we set up under the large Beech tree and had reasonable success.

Highlights included 2 Small Elephant Hawkmoths, one of which nearly hitched a ride home! A pristine looking Ghost Moth (which was new for me!) and several colourful Brimstones and Light Emeralds.

The most numerous species being Map-winged Swifts with 14+ in the trap.

The full  tally for the night as follows..

Ghost Moth 1

Clay 1

Small Elephant Hawkmoth 2

Large Emerald 3

Brimstone 2

Common Swift 3

Map-winged Swift 14+

Green Carpet 2

Ingrailed Clay 2

Flame Shoulder 2

Marbled Minor 8

Dusky Brocade 1

Sadly looks like poor weather for the foreseeable, but hopefully we'll be able to get the trap out again at some point this summer.
