Bit of indecision this week between Siskin and the Great Spotted  Woodpecker as the bird of the week.  I think it's got to be the Great Spotted,  simply because one of these guys - in this instance a young Woodpecker -  has been keeping us company all week throughout the wet weather by feeding on our peanut feeder at Ashway Gap and giving us some cracking views.

Elsewhere around Dove Stone this week we have had some really great views of a young Kestrel as well as sightings of some Dove Stone regulars: Raven,  Dipper,  Red Grouse,  Goldcrest,  Coal and Long Tailed Tit,  Swallow and Linnet.  On the mammal front there have been sightings of both Stoat and Weasel as well as Mountain Hare.

The Peregrines are still with us.  Friday saw good views of three of the birds,  with at least one of these being one of the young birds.

Dove Stone is a good place for families;  if you're thinking of paying us a visit then we do have activities for the junior members amongst us ! You'll find us Thursdays to Sunday at Ashway Gap ( as well as in the main Dove Stone carpark at weekends ) and as well as the opportunity to still see the Peregrines there are activities like bug-hunting,  leaf treasure hunts,  numerous quizzes and the chance to take a closer look at exactly what owls eat !  Watch this space for news of forthcoming stream dipping fun.

Don't forget that this Sunday 8th there is also another RSPB accompanied walk,  meeting at 10.30 at the main car park
