...Good sighting from Mandy today at Dove Stone with two Peregrines flying well above a 40+ group of Pink Footed Geese before one of the Peregrines flying into the group and isolating a single Pink Foot before deciding that it was a bit of a non-starter by the sounds of things - bit big for a Peregrine?! Other sightings around and about Dove Stone recently have been 3 Ravens, a second large group of Pink Footed geese, Kestrel, 2 female and 1 male Reed Bunting, 6 Lesser Redpolls, Nuthatch, Cormorant and good sightings of Dove Stone regulars up at Binn Green such as Great Spotted Woodpecker, Jay, Siskin, Wren, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Great, Blue and Coal Tits.
Lots going on this weekend up at Dovies with Saturday's Mountain Hare talk and walk. The talk starts at 12 in the Clarence Pub, Greenfield ( at the bottom of the road up to Dove Stone on the mini roundabout ) followed by the walk meeting at the main car park at Dove Stone at 1.30. Come along for either or both ! And on the Sunday we have our first Winter Thrush Walk & Survey where we'll be particularly looking out for Redwing and Fieldfare but also making records of anything else we might see: Mistle Thrush, Starlings, Waxwing and perhaps even Scandinavian Blackbird?! If you're interested in coming along then come down to the main car park at Dove Stone at 11am. More soon...
