The winter so far has been fairly benign, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been some interesting sightings!
In recent weeks, a lovely male Pochard made an appearance on Dovestone Reservoir, spotted by our fantastic volunteer Ken Gartside who also managed to get a shot of the bird. (makes a change from the usual Mallards!)

A flock of around 10 Reed Buntings, mixed with Greenfinch and Goldfinch were seen near the sailing club.
Fieldfare and Redwing have been seen feeding in the fields, now all the berries have been eaten! and winter parties of Long-tailed Tits have made a few visits.
Other sightings include Cormorant, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Grey Heron, Raven, Golden Plover and several pairs of Dipper getting ready for the breeding season.
This winter has also been an irruption year for Waxwings, with a few sightings in Saddleworth. There's still a month or so before they leave again for Scandinavia and Siberia so keep an eye out for flocks of colouful starling sized birds, especially if there is any fruit still left on the trees.
