Ever fancied the chance to get up-close and personal with badgers in their natural habitat?

 Alasdair Grubb

We're offering an opportunity to get a truly fantastic experience to get really close and watch/study these fascinating animals, and give you an evening you will never forget. Whether you want to sit and observe these exquisite animals at close quarters, or get some phenomenal photo opportunities of them, this is for you.

 Alasdair Grubb

The hide is only a canvas hide (for now!), 2mx2m in size, so big enough for 2 people who don't mind getting cosy, or one who wants to stretch out. The area is floodlit, so when badgers emerge after dark, you can still get some great views and photographs.

Pricing initially will be £65 for RSPB members and £80 for non-members (to hire the hide out for one evening).

  • Hi Thomo,

    Thank you for your feedback.

We have been wanting to bring badger events to our visitors for a while now, but the logistics and practicalities have taken a lot of time to sort out as we obviously wanted to ensure no disturbance to the badgers. A great deal of my time has been invested in order to create this special experience. The pricing has been set in accordance with several factors including staff resource invested, looking into similar experiences offered by other organisations and businesses, the limited amount of people we can offer it to at any one time, the exclusive nature of the offer and feedback from visitors looking for an opportunity to take photographs in this unique setting.

From feedback we have gathered, we strive to offer a range of events to our visitors, ranging from free guided walks to more premium events, to cater for lots of different audiences and requirements. Introducing the badger offer is new this year and something we are very much trying out to see how it goes. For the first time this summer we ran guided walks to see the badgers at a cost of £8 for non-member and £6.50 for RSPB members, in order to give visitors a spread of options to see the badgers, depending on the experience they are looking for.

I hope this answers your concerns, but if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch on my email above.

    Best wishes,

    Alasdair Grubb, Warden

  • Myself and my friend where booked to go on a badger watch from a viewing point at a local reserve run by a wildlife charity in North East England and it was free of charge. To me the RSPB charging an excruciating amount for viewing badgers, particularly £65.00 for RSPB members and more for non members is completely wrong. At least I can go to a viewing point with the warden of this local reserve in North East England and almost guaranteed on seeing badgers for free with booking in advance.

    Regards,

    Ian.
