Hello there. It's time for the next blog from our WEX group. They met again last Saturday and it was a very special meeting as they had a visit from Lisa, the Bug Lady!
She brought with her a veritable feast of bugs for the children to learn about, watch and hold. There were hissing cockroaches, various fabulous stick insects and a few giant African land snails including a 15 year one named Cyril!
I loved holding the stick insects but wasn't keen on holding Cyril...I admired him from afar.
Anyway, our young writer Freddie was there and has kindly written a bit about what he thought. This time he has also illustrated his writing. Thank you Freddie, great job!
I persuaded another young enthusiast to write about WEX too. So today I'm introducing you to Evelyn, aged 8 I think, or maybe 9. It was her first ever WEX and as you will read, she loved it! In fact, she is going to become a regular WEX member. That's brilliant Evelyn and I'm sure that you will enjoy the monthly meetings.
I am also sure that you will enjoy reading what Evelyn has written. She has provided some lovely illustrations as well. Thanks very much Evelyn. :)
I've split her writing into 2 parts to make it easier to read on the blog.
Snails are lovely but slimy. That's why I admired from behind my camera.....
In real life, a few photos of these fabulous bugs.
This stick insect was my fav....gloriously green and quite big!
Cyril, the 15 year old giant African land snail....
A pretty spectacular giant hissing cockroach!
I think this stick insect is a 'Giant Spiny' stick insect.
And finally, a stick insect which looks a bit like my Christmas cactus. I have quite forgotten what this one is called.
Our website advertises WEX on Saturday but it's not correct. The October WEX was last weekend and the next meeting is on the 3rd Saturday of November.
Many thanks go to our young writers Freddie and Evelyn, your writing is great, as is your enthusiasm for WEX. Way to go I reckon! :)
