END OF THE ROAD

One of my favourite bands, KISS, is finally retiring. After 50 years of touring, they're calling it quits. They've named their final live dates 'The End of the Road Tour'.

Dear reader, I'm not quite as old as those guys in the face paint but I too am calling time on my work. This week's blog will be the last, although, much like KISS after their numerous previous retirements, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it came back at some time in the future.

I'll let the RSPB's Comms Team explain...

The RSPB is rolling out a new website which is of course a huge undertaking. Unfortunately, some of the previous functionality is not currently available and we hope to have these back up and running as soon as possible. You may be able to find some of the pages you are looking for through using the search function in the top right-hand corner of the website.

The upshot is that the place where we normally post the blog is currently unavailable. As very few people are able to read it at the moment, we've decided to put this blog on hiatus for now.

Sadly, this means that you won't be able to read...

  • How it is theoretically possible to see our Dearne Valley reserves as they were millions of years ago, complete with real living dinosaurs;

  • My family-friendly explanation of the complex and astounding love-life of the humble Dunnock;

  • The almost-true story of how Santa Claus dropped into Old Moor one Christmas Eve to ask for directions as he had trouble finding or even pronouncing “Adwick”.

I know that some of you look at this weekly blog just to see the latest Old Moor sightings board. The best way to find out what we've seen on the reserve is to check our @RSPB_OldMoor feed on X/Twitter. That is usually updated at least once a day and is very reliable.

Hopefully you've enjoyed these blogs, thanks for reading. I started writing them exactly two years ago. If you'd like to read the entire back catalogue you can find them at this link. And if all goes to plan, I'll be back with more in the near future. Until then, please come and visit me and (much more importantly) the magnificent reserve at RSPB Old Moor. I'm the big guy in the big hat.

Volunteer Shaun welcomes visitors to RSPB Old Moor. He also writes a weekly blog about life at the reserve titled, "View From the Shed". He usually wears a big hat.
