Hello there, we had two spotted redshanks on Old Moor today. They flew around a bit giving some visitors close views but when I saw them (from the FPE), they were distant and asleep...
Without further waffle here is the sightings map from Old Moor today. Click on the picture for a larger, sharper view.
In addition to that, there was another sighting of a nuthatch today. It was seen near the VC so that must be the 3rd ever record of one at Old Moor. Keep a lookout!
A greenshank wandering along the shoreline from the Field Pool East.
One of my highlights today was watching a flock of 50-100 starlings flying around on Wath Ings/Field Pools. There seem to be a few little flocks gathering which might (fingers very crossed) result in a murmuration at some point!
Here they are.
Another highlight on the Field Pools today were the 18 black tailed godwits. They flew around, slept and bathed and were great to watch.
Here's one of them having a bit of a preen.
The silver teal was still delighting watchers in the Wader Scrape Hide today and it was also a bit 'Swan Lake' there today with at least 14 mute swans, one of whom was a bit aggressive and liked to charge at some of the other swans.
There was also this grey heron near the hide. Not sure what it was doing here... Revving up?!
I had a couple of visits to the Tree Sparrow Farm today but didn't manage to see the male sparrowhawk that I saw last weekend...still, who knows? It might still become a regular visitor here.
There are sightings from our satellite sites on the Twitter feed of the Barnsley Birders (@BarnsleyBSG).
That's it for today, back soon.
