Hello again, I hope you enjoyed our moment of fame on Springwatch last night. It's definitely worth looking for the programme on BBC iplayer if you didn't!
Thanks go to Lauren for sending the sightings my way today.
They are as follows and are from Old Moor.
On the field pools today we had two teal, two little egret, a redshank and the golfinches, linnets and wrens from the field pools screen.
From the Family Hide we had med gulls (with one sitting) and reed warblers in the surrounding reeds.
A buzzard was sitting in the cuckoo tree - I've seen one here a few times lately so keep a lookout on that tree.
Next we had sightings of a lovely little grebe and a stripey chick from the Bittern Hide and on Wath Ings, the shelduck pair have 10 chicks!
Finally for today from the book at Old Moor there are sightings of reed bunting from the balcony and a quote from a visitor which went... 'Bitterns all over the reserve!'
From Twitter
we have sightings via John Seeviour from Bolton Ings.
Here they are... two mute swans with eight young, five great crested grebes with two young, four mallards, nine gadwall, seven pochard which included one female, one cormorant, one lesser black backed gull, three herring gull, one common gull and one common tern. John also gave us sightings of a bittern, five chiffchaff, seven willow warbler, four whitethroat, one reed warbler, one grasshopper warbler, forty three coot with twenty seven young, one green woodpecker, two bullfinch, three linnets and one grey wagtail.
That's a pretty good list from Bolton Ings, thanks John!
The 'best bits' from Edderthorpe today come via Ziggy G on Twitter - two avocet, nine little egret, one oystercatcher, seven ringed plover, thirty five lapwing, fifty swifts and a mute swan with six young cygnets. Thank you Ziggy.
That's it for today so far. If you follow the Twitter feed of the @BarnsleyBSG then you'll get to hear of any further sightings today.
I'm afraid I don't have any photos for you today so that's it, except to say to enjoy this glorious sunny evening.
Apologies, the blog isn't letting me format my writing - ie with line spaces and paragraphs...
