Hello there, what a gorgeous day we have had! Much chillier than yesterday but with stunning blue skies!

This morning started off with golden light and mist coming off the water...just beautiful.

I'll start with a tale from yesterday in the reedbeds. It was a brilliant morning to hear and see the bearded tits. They were pinging all over the place and when I phoned Karen (assistant warden), I think I used some wonderful birding language to describe what I was hearing. I said... 'There's a shed load of pinging going on right now....'

I was lucky enough to see a male perching at the top of the reeds in the distance for a brief few seconds.

They are very gorgeous birds, and how exciting for many watchers (me included) to hear so much pinging and see so many flights.

Here's the sightings summary from today at Old Moor and yes, the beardies were seen again today.

As per usual, a click on the photo will give you a larger and sharper read.

I went into the bird garden for a little while this morning and was delighted to see two redwing there. They were on the right hand side of the hide in the bit of scrub beyond the feeders.

Here's one of them.

On to news from the satellite sites via Twitter and today, I only have news from Bolton Ings.

John Seeviour was at Bolton Ings and gave us the following sightings - thank you John.

He saw - 2 mute swans with 2 juvs, a little grebe, 5 great crested grebe, 11 mallard, 4 teal, 7 tufted duck, 4 pochard, 6 cormorants, 3 grey heron, a buzzrad, 4 black tailed godwit, 73 lapwing, 5 LBB gull, 6 common gull and a green woodpecker.

Here is a photo from the Tree Sparrow farm today. A lovely little robin posing nicely.

A couple of 'bits'... on Saturday there is a dusk walk with knowledgeable volunteer Gerald. Details can be found here.

We have another of our popular stargazing events with the fabulous Mexborough and Swinton Astronomical Society. I have learned so much about the night sky from these events and always find them interesting. Details can be found here.

And to get you into the 'stargazing mood,' the moon this eve, not taken at Old Moor but it is the same moon!
