Hello again, the news today is that the grey phalarope wasn't seen at Old Moor today. It's been a lovely 3 weeks in which many people got to see it. So bon voyage to the lovely little bird and thanks for staying for so long!
Here is a summary of the sightings from Old Moor. Thanks to those of you who wrote in the book, people on Twitter and volunteer Gerald for all the following sightings.
As per usual, click on the picture for a larger and sharper view.
I only have further sightings from today in the Dearne Valley from Adwick. They come via Gary Stones. Thank you Gary.
He saw: 17 grey partridge, 14 snipe, 90 lapwing, 19 shovelor, 40 teal, 33 wigeon, 12 gadwall, 6 common gull, 7 LBB gull and a green woodpecker.
As I mentioned in my last blog, I was on a fungi search on Saturday afternoon with Karen, assistant warden. We had a drive around the back of the reserve near the windmill that you can see that's behind the owl box as if you are looking from the Wader Scrape.
You might or might not know that we have a reservoir here. It's not visible from the reserve but it helps top up water levels in dry conditions (as per this summer) and it also holds water that comes in from the river if it rains a lot.
We thought you might like to see what the view looks like from here.
In this photo, the windmill that you can see from the hides is on the left.
And this view is the other half of the reservoir.
I'm just about to start to try to ID fungi from this trip but here's one that made me smile.
I can see a face, can you? If you know what it is then please let me know...
Have a lovely evening :)
