Hello there, I'm afraid I don't have sightings from the book from today but I do have those from yesterday so that's where I shall begin this eve.
Thursday 5th April - Sightings Part 1
Thursday 5th April - Sightings Part 2
As you will no doubt have read, there was quite a lot! The Barnsley Birders (@Barnsleybsg) tweeted this morning that the red kite sightings were of two different red kites which is great news.
Twitter sightings from the Barnsley Birders today start at Adwick and Broomhill.
At Adwick there was a male cuckoo (definitely a sound of spring), 2 willow warbler, 10+ avocet, 2 fieldfare and the garganey pair. The garganey pair were on the flooded area, the 2nd Pylon from car park at Harlington end. They then flew towards Bolton Pool at 07.10.
Peter Walsh added further sightings from Adwick of a yellow wagtail, a swallow and 5 grey partridge.
At Broomhill came news of a buzzard, 2 oystercatcher, one curlew, one greenshank, two lesser black backed gull and a female merlin was spotted in the back field then she flew south at 08.03.
The Barnsley guys then carried on with a tweet of sightings from early on at Old Moor today - 2 Cetti's Warbler which were 2 singing males, 1 mediterranean gull and 4 goldeneye on Wath Ings.
That's it for today so far, so I'll leave you with a couple of photos taken around this time last year - we had much warmer weather and butterflies. Hopefully things will warm up soon and we will start to have sightings of the beautiful orange tip butterfly.
Here's the male (from last year).
Here's the female which is also from last year.
That's it, have a lovely evening :)
