Hello again, it's been a great day for sightings at Old Moor with lots of fishing going on that I saw. I'm sure it goes on normally but it's not usual that I see so many successful catches.

I saw successful catches from little and great crested grebe, cormorant, little egret and grey heron. It's always a good few moments when you watch a bird trying to down a fish it has caught.

Here's a cormorant doing just that. Taken from the Wader Scrape Hide.

So the sightings map part 1.

And the sightings map part 2. If you click on the image, it will give you a larger and sharper view.

Other sightings today were of a dipper near the bridge, which is near the hide at Bolton. It's a bit of an unusual sighting to say the least. It was seen this morning early on and then not picked up again.

Other sightings from Bolton were of 3 kingfisher and pied wagtail.

On Wombell Ings early on today there were 2 spotted redshank as well as 2 greenshank and a green woodpecker.

A marsh harrier was also seen at OM early on.

We haven't reported sightings from the Tree Sparrow Farm very much lately, and indeed, I haven't been in there much for a while either. I spent time there earlier this week and was delighted to spot goldfinches feeding on the teasel there. So today that's where I went first...just in case the goldfinches were there again. Well, there was a distinct lack of goldfinches but what there was, was a male sparrowhawk! I'm thinking that it might be the same bird that was regularly seen here last year. I'm thinking this, is because it sat in the same tree for ages and flew towards the feeders at the screen (as it did last year.) Time will tell, but fingers crossed it starts becoming a regular visitor here.

Here it is behind the branches that are very close to the screen. It didn't catch a meal whilst I was there.

There was a lovely little blue tit family here too. They were flitting around and feeding and were lovely to watch. Here's one of them.

Gary Stones was at Adwick today and saw the following - 4, possibly 5, Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Redstart, 1 Whinchat, 2 Black Tailed Godwits, 1 Ringed Plover, 10 Snipe and 11 Teal.

Graham Speight was at Edderthorpe and saw the following - the first Pintail & Wigeon of autumn, 74 Shoveler, 5 juv Black Tailed Godwits, 2 juv Greenshank, 2 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, 19 Little Egret and 37 Yellow Wagtails.

Female pheasant having a dust bath in the TSF today.

Butterflies seen today were speckled wood, common blue, comma and small white.

Dragonflies seen today were brown and migrant hawker, common and ruddy darter.

That's it, enjoy your Saturday evening. :)
