Evening Folks! Here is today’s summary of sightings…
Despite the dismal weather today, two bearded tit were seen on the Reedbed Trail along with a very confiding kestrel. Other birds of prey seen today were buzzard and, first thing, a barn owl hunting near the Tree Sparrow Farm.
Eighty great black-backed gull were counted leaving the Bolton Ings roost early this morning along with the recent Caspian.
Drake goldeneye from Adrian Dickinson. Thanks Adrian.
Other notable changes today included a ‘convoy’ of seventeen or so redwing, working their way around the hedges of Old Moor. There also seemed to be over half the valley’s shelduck on the Wader Scrape today along with five goosander.
There’s no doubt the squally weather (and the last of the flooding) is making the watcher’s life a bit more difficult. Even the recent great white egret at Edderthorpe did a disappearing act today! It was last seen flying towards Old Moor though no-one picked it up there that I know of.
And sadly, that’s about it for this evening. The weather looks to be improving over the next few days and the weekend looks like a sunny one. Fingers crossed eh?
Until next time.
As I came back to OM from Edderthorpe at lunchtime there was a also kestrel hovering over the embankment half way down DV Parkway just before the river.
Purely anecdotal, but I'm glad to say that I'm seeing more kestrel at the moment than I have for many months.
I’ve seen loads on my travels this last 12 months. they are doing better overall.
