Hello again, what a gloriously 'fabulously sunny' day! At last! I'm just back from a lovely evening out and about in the sunshine, but not Old Moor so the sightings today are from the book (surprisingly sparse) and from Twitter.
First of all from the book at Old Moor. On the Mere/Wader Scrape there was a little gull and a sandwich tern. A lesser whitethroat was seen from the car park and a yellowhammer was in the tree sparrow farm. Then from Green Lane there were sightings of a lesser whitethroat and a sedge warbler. And the final sighting from the book was of three buzzards over the reedbeds. I'm absolutely sure that there was more around than that...however....
From Twitter today from Broomhill: A sandwich tern, 2 mute swan, 2 oystercatcher, 1 LBB gull, 1 herring gull, 2 red legged partridge and a snipe. Thanks to the @BarnsleyBSG for those sightings.
Also from the Barnsley Birders we have sightings from Wombwell today - 2 shelduck, 2 great crested grebe, 4 snipe, 3 oystercatcher, 2 redshank, 1 med gull, 1 common tern, 1common sandpiper, 1 white wagtail, 1 lesser whitethroat, 5 mute swan and 5 avocet.
Ken Foundation tweeted that there were 3 Cetti's warbler near the hide at Bolton Ings and further sightings from Old Moor were of an avocet flying over and a med gull (@Barnsleybsg).
Alan Stonier was at Edderthorpe and gave us the following sightings - 1 greenshank, 2 common sandpiper, 1 little egret, 2 LBB gulls, 1 oystercatcher, 1 great crested grebe, 15 mute swan, 2 teal, 4 whitethroat, 3 lesser whitethroat and a red kite flying south.
John Seeviour then added further sightings from Bolton Ings - 1 mute swan, 4 great crested grebe, 2 little grebe, 2 mallard, 4 gadwall, 28 tuftedduck, 9 pochard, 5 cormorant, 1 common gull, 8 chiffchaff, 11 willow warbler, 6 blackcap, 2 buzzard and 6+ sand martin.
Finally from Twitter today come the sightings from Adwick via Gary Stones - 1 little egret, 3 garganey, 20 avocet, 20+ redhsank, 2 ringed plover, 2 oystercatchers, 1 buzzard, 2 wheatear, 6 yellow wagtail, 6 grey partridge, 3 pink footed geese, 2 pochard, 2 wigeon, 1 water rail and a little owl.
That's it for today so I'll finish with a photo from the archives of a chiffchaff.
More sunshine tomorrow I think!
