With the sun setting and wildlife coming in to roost, there’s no finer place to be on a summer’s evening than RSPB Old Moor. And from Monday 19 April until the end of September, you'll have the chance to watch the wildlife after hours! We hope that opening the reserve until 8 pm, will enable even more people to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
We've even made you two brand new hides. A new sheltered viewpoint overlooking RSPB Bolton Ings complete with stunning cormorant cut-outs went in last week, and the much-anticipated Bittern Hide has now been installed on Old Moor, overlooking the reedbeds.
Previously, the nature reserve has only been open between 9.30 am and 5 pm during the summer months, but the new opening times mean visitors can enjoy the reserve as evening falls, witnessing spectacular numbers of birds as they roost for the night.
We know you've wanted this, now make it yours! The more people coming to use the site in an evening for the right reasons will hopefully deter those who may wish to cause harm. We hope that this opens a whole new world of wildlife watching for you...
