The parks and streets of Barnsley have been turned into a giant walking, cycling and running game this month and Old Moor is proud to be hosting a small part of it. The game, called ‘Beat the Street’, runs from 5 June until 17 July and is being funded by The National Lottery on behalf of Sport England, and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.
Here’s today’s summary of sightings from Old Moor…
Individuals and teams score points and win prizes by walking from point to point within an hour and tapping a registered Beat the Street card or fob on special sensors (Beat Boxes). Two of these boxes are now at Old Moor.
If you want to know more, the game is explained (including a map of Beat Boxes) on the Beat the Street website and a link to this can be found here. For a bit of inspiration, have a look at the BTS Barnsley Twitter feed.
At the time of writing, Barnsley’s Beat the Street players have walked an incredible 88,000 miles. That’s over three and a half times around the Earth!
Fingers crossed that a few trips around Old Moor can help boost that total!
Until next time.
