Hello again, the new news today is of 4 black necked grebes at Edderthorpe, 40 whooper swans at Wombwell early on, 7 avocet and a swallow at Adwick today!

Martin Wells tweeted that this is the earliest ever record of a swallow in this area. The previous earliest were of singles at Orgreave Lakes on 17th March 2012 and at Adwick Washlands on 17th March 2017.

John Clarkson tweeted the following advice should you be wishing to go and see the black necked grebes tomorrow to see if they are still there. Thanks John.

''If visiting to look for the black necked grebes please only view from the railway line. Birds are at the southern end in front of wind turbines.'

John Seeviour was at Bolton Ings today and reported the following sightings - 2 mute swans, 2 great crested grebe, 3 little grebe, 3 mallard, 4 gadwall, 1 teal, 8 shovelor, 28 tufted duck, one pochard,  2 goldeneye (m&f), 9 cormorant, 78 coot, a female sparrowhawk, a buzzard, 121 black headed gulls, 1 common gull, 1 marsh tit, 1willow tit, 2 song thrush, 2 bullficnhes and a grey wagtail.

The hawfinch was still at Broomhill today and we've been very lucky indeed with how long it has been around there. Fingers crossed it stays even longer.

The yellow browned warbler has been seen again today at Wombwell but no sign of the friecrest as yet today. Hopefully that just means that it was around when there wasn't anyone watching and it will be seen again tomorrow. Time will tell!

Ken Foundation was at Adwick today and reported these sightings from this afternoon - 3 little egret, c140 wigeon, 4 shelduck, 8 shovelor, 8 avocet, 12 redshank, one oystercatcher, 1 ringed plover and 6 grey partridge.

Next to the book from Old Moor today. My thanks go to Jack for sending them my way.

I'll start with the sightings from the bird garden - stock dove, mallard, wood pigeon, gs woodpecker, chaffinch, moorhen, goldfinch, greenfinch, reed warbler, bullfinch, blue tit and great tit.

Cormorants and black headed gulls were seen from the Family Hide today and a med gull was also reported in the book on the Mere.

Good sightings/hearings from the reedbed screen today - water rail, booming bittern and a bearded tit.

That's it for today so far but as always, if you know any different then please do let us know.

I'll end with a couple of photos of whooper swans which were taken at Old Moor about a year ago. Fab birds :)
