The warden team got pretty wet in the rain today at Old Moor but we took the opportunity to tidy up and strim some visitor areas and the playground before the sun comes out again tomorrow and hopefully there will be loads more people around the site.
Many of the people who braved the weather were hoping for sightings of the black terno that were over the mere yesterday but they were nowhere to be seen.
Low visitor numbers meant there weren't many sightings in the book, but I was let loose with some marker pens on the sighting board in the visitor centre and these are the results and an overview of the day in the Dearne Valley.
A little ringed plover dropped onto Wader Scrape at 5.35pm while I was checking the sluices but other than that I think these are correct at the time of going to press.
The bitterns were less active today but considering the weather that is to be expected, one of the birds is making regular trips to Bolton Ings so there is a good chance of seeing a bittern from most hides.
Think that's it for today.
