At last, I have finally managed to post Paul's amazing ringing photos. Enjoy....
Latest osprey news, JD who we think is the elder of the two chicks and is probably a male, has been doing a lot of wing exercising over the weekend, and has been doing spilt second hovers, not long before he will fly! Ospreys usually fledge around 52 days after hatching, so by our calculations it should be Friday and Saturday this week, however JD may exceed this expectation. JC the larger one of our chicks doesn't seem so eager yet, but it is thought to be the younger of the two, and is certainly heavier leading us to believe JC is JD's younger sister. I'm sure she won't be far behind JD as they hatched on consecutive days.
Make sure you come to see them at Wigtown County Buildings soon. Once they have fledged they will spend the next month or so around the area and will probably still use the nest as a base before setting off on their amazing migration to Africa in early September.
