For those of you that are not familiar with the RSPB characters in  our Wildlife explorers club Owlbert is the owl.

So we occasionally set up remote cameras to see what is about when we are away from the reserve and we leave them for several day at a time to allow the the human scent to disappear a bit.

Well we have seen a Barn Owl hunting in the area of the Crook for a couple of months so over Christmas and up till today I have had a camera setup to see if i could catch a picture without disturbing the bird from its normal every day life and to my delight on the 27th of Jan got some decent shots that I would like to share. They are taken with an infrared flash hence the black and white photo and the grainy picture.

  • The picnic tables are perfect at dusk for owl watching - possibly the one Paul snapped in the farm buildings - skirting the wall, dropping into the willow field and ditch, silently flitting to the trees by the merse.  And made a bit special when you can hear geese settling down out on the mudflats at the same time!
