Good Afternoon
Well the sun is out again giving beautiful blue skies and the young herons are sporting beautiful pale blue plumage and the young lapwings are starting to show the iridescent blue and green plumage. So far we are well ahead on our numbers of young with 22 young lapwings from 11 nests and the herons have 7 young out of 19 birds counted we cannot be sure about the number of nests as well at present as we have not found their heronry but 19 it the most we have ever had on the reserve at anytime of the year. Redshanks have done very well with 4 nests and 5 young seen and often you will see adults but no young as you can see from the inserted picture they all have red legs but the easy age distinguisher is the colour of the bill.
We have started to draw down the water levels in Lagoon 1 and 5 also field 2 wetland these are for basic management but lagoon 5 is in need of some remedial work so will be fully drained down for work to be carried out later in the year.
