Thanks to Paul for introducing me. It looks like it'll be a quiet year on the Osprey camera, still no sign of the birds returning or new ones coming in. A pair of Ravens have been hanging out on the nest, giving us a close view of these enigmatic birds. And you may spot a tree sparrow diving into the twigs of the nest itself. These little birds have nested within the ospreys nest for several years taking advantage of the protection and plentiful grubs to be found.
If you are in the area, it is still worth a visit to the Osprey Room for the best panoramic view over the Bay. I have a telescope available for anyone to use to look out over the Bay. There are shelduck, lapwings and redshank out on the merse (saltmarsh) as well as skylarks singing overhead. There's a chance you may see the peregrine falcon, that uses the County Buildings as a vantage point for hunting in the Bay and in the next few months the building will also become home to nesting swifts.
Wigtown has a lot to offer, with a large selection of bookshops, cosy cafes, and other interesting little shops. Why not pop in to browse the bookshops, have a spot of lunch and visit the County buildings to see the Bay. Hope to see you in Wigtown soon.
