Well the weather smiled on us through a cold breeze but in the sun it was very nice we did not have hundreds of visitors for the Crook's first open day but every one seemed to enjoy the day and I know I did it was good to talk to so many interested visitors and describe some of our ideas for the reserve.

With exhibits from local artist Lisa Hooper a local artist form Port William and her beautiful originals and prints of block work art and Cree Valley Community Woodland Trust and Galloway Fisheries Trust also contributions from SNH and SEPA and our own Brian Nolan from the RSPB Local Group who launched the Crook of Baldoon raffle for a first prize of a painting by another local artist Paul Collin this raffle will run through to the Book Festival at the end of September and be drawn on the last day of the festival and winners posted on the blog and local papers. Raffle Tickets are available from the Wigtown Bay Osprey room or the RSPB Wigtown Office and of course I shall be selling them on my events.

May I thank all those that took part both visitors and exhibitors and a special thank you to our volunteers

Paul

  • Hi Billc

Its all down to the quality of the volunteers that have spent so much time cleaning the place and building the dividing wall that made the place just right for the event.

Looking forward to your help for the next one hope to see you soon.

two pairs of Wheatears in their usual nesting spots today which is great the more time I spend on the Crook the more idiosyncrasies the place seems to have and even after one and a have years in the job I am looking for things and they just turn up were I expect them.

In fact doing dip wells tonight and found in one of our new flooded areas tadpoles which in six months is not bad and then in a section that was brackish because the flap valve did not work so but in a new valve and blow me if did not find a dragonfly nymph.

It amazes me how quickly bodies of water can be colonised.
