It is with great sadness that I write to say that Mr Bill Campbell, one of our first volunteers in the Wigtown Bay Visitor Centre, sadly lost his battle with cancer on the 3rd January, at Dumfries hospital, with his family at his side.
Bill started as a visitor interpretation volunteer in July 2011, when the RSPB first started looking after the visitor centre in Wigtown County Buildings. Bill's enthusiasm for nature conservation and the wildlife of Wigtown made him a great asset to the team, and while he often said he was no expert, his warmth and interest shone through to all he met. Bill was always bright and friendly, even when his long illness was taking it's toll. He will be much missed by the team for his wit and candour.
We extend our heart-felt symnpathies to his family and friends at this sad time.
I was at Glasgow University with Bill. I often wondered what became of him.
That's a lovely tribute, Alexa. I still expect to see him around the town and in the osprey room.
Bill will be greatly missed
