Welcome to our brand new Coombes Valley blog where we will be doing our best to keep you up to date with will all the news and updates from the reserve.

After a quiet and very snowy winter, the reserve is now beginning to come back to life and we can start to look forward to what this next year will have to offer. Spring is now well and truly on the way and it’s a great time to take a leisurely stroll around the reserve.

 Recent bird sightings include 

  • Large numbers of tits including blue tit, great tit and coal tit. Willow tit has also been seen around the picnic feeding station.
  • Flocks of chaffinch, bullfinch and up to 50 goldfinch
  • Great spotted woodpecker
  • Heron – near to the bridge over the stream
  • Nuthatch – often seen filling up on peanuts at the feeding station
  • Treecreeper – can be seen on the trucks of trees around the reserve
  • Buzzards – Sit and watch them from the top of buzzard bank
