For this week’s blog, I (Rachel, from the Visitor team) thought that it’s a good opportunity to tell you about some of our events we have planned this year.

It’s Half term week this week, that means another fun event here at RSPB Coombes Valley!

From Wednesday 19 February to Sunday 23 February Coombes will be host to Wild Art Activity days. Call in any time between 11am and 3 pm to have ago at the Activities.

Stick and stone creatures, natural collages, and wild picture frames are just some of the activities on offer.  This is a great opportunity to get outdoors, dust off those cobwebs and explore your local reserve. Turning old leaves and sticks into wild art are great ways to learn about the outdoors and connect with nature.

We have the return of our Easter trail from Saturday 5 April to Sunday 27 April, 10:30am – 4:00pm. Help the Easter bunny find his lost Easter eggs, scattered around Coombes Valley. Find them all and go home with your very own Easter egg. £4 per child, £3.20 Wildlife Explorers, no booking required.

Join the team for a Dawn Chorus Guided Walk on Sunday 4 May. We will be listening to the enchanting sounds of the birds and the woodland on our popular seasonal walk. No booking required, £5 per person 20% off for RSPB members.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on our Events page for more up and coming events this year. Remember, there are always free equipment packs available to take out on the reserve and pond dipping is on almost daily, ask a member of staff for more information.

2014 is shaping up to be an exciting year as we see the opening of the newly extended Woodcock Trail, the installation of a natural play trail with rope bridges and secret hide outs and even a yurt! We hope you will come and explore for yourselves.

Sadly, that was the last time you shall hear from me as I say a fond farewell to Coombes Valley. I am passing over the Visitor duties to the new Visitor Intern Sally who you will hear from in the near future. I have had a marvellous time at Coombes Valley and will look forward to returning as a visitor soon.
