With spring well and truly on its way there is plenty to see and hear at Coombes Valley.

As the wildlife begins to stir, the reserve can begin to come alive with woodland bird song. Robins, blackbirds and other resident birds can be seen flying back and forth with twigs and other plant debris to begin to build their nests.

Members of the tit family can still be seen busying away at the peanut feeder in the picnic area.

You may be able to catch sight of buzzards soaring over the woodland hillside in fine weather. So, listen out for their mewing ‘peee – uu’ call

Spend some time relaxing at the wooden bridge over looking the brook and keep a sharp eye out for grey wagtail or even if your lucky a dipper.

Recent sightings include the reports of a barn owl flying over the viewing platform next to the visitor centre at dusk.
